Spring in Full Motion in the RE area!
Spring is in full motion in the children's area right now. Habitat and RE have put in some plants, and nature has bountifully filled in the open space beside the raised beds. These are Texas native wildflowers as well as herbs we use at home. These are plants that the children, with guidance from RE adults, can touch and smell, and learn to observe the life that may come to them. The first "common sunflower" is blooming, next to the thriving pot of mint that the RE kids plan

Native Plant Sales on Saturday March 28
Three Native Plant Society Chapters are holding sales this weekend, Saturday, March 28th. They sell only plants that have developed naturally in Texas. Check out Burnet, Salado and our own Williamson County chapter sale which meets in Georgetown. HEB is also doing an excellent job offering a section of Texas native plants at our local stores. Now is a great time to plant! Highland Lakes (Burnet) 3/28/2026 10 AM - 4 PM 27th Annual Hill Country Lawn & Garden Show Agrilife Au

Fire Ant Treatment - Environmentally Friendly Tip from the Habitat Team
Fire Ant Treatment Following sound environmental practices, our SGUUF Habitat team does not use any chemical fertilizers or insecticides. Yet the invasive fire ants, as you all experience, are a constant problem. So years ago, we found the following recipe. Bonnie Lynn McKinnon volunteered to take on this job, especially to protect the children on Sundays, and adults too. We are all so grateful, as the ants can surprise us too. She’s been doing this so long I can’t remember.

Habitat Team Meeting for Spring '26
Anyone interested in digging in the dirt in support of wildlife is invited to join the Habitat team on Thursday, March 19th at 11:00 on the deck at UU. (inside if it rains) Bring your lunch and we will visit and make plans for the coming spring months. You don’t have to know anything about native Texas plants or gardening. We just work together and have a good time! Contact Billye Adams at habitat@sangabrieluu.org
