Hospitality Team Update

Update on Hospitality

Hospitality appreciation grew and we believe it helps strengthen fellowship with all of the hardship around us.  However, the enthusiasm is larger than the participation.  About three months ago, we sent out an all call for more team members.  We have some intermittent interest but no steady participation.  Some of the interest comes from a few members that are already volunteering in several areas.  Sometimes people express interest but no action. Setting up is more popular than clean up.

Carolyn and I have had many conversations about the future of this team over the last several months.  We both find joy and meaning in serving in this way.  The team needs 4-5 people that are willing to be trained and serve at least one Sunday a Month.  Five would be ideal.  The following would be what is expected of team members…

  • A willingness to serve at least one Sunday a month from 9:30 am to 12:30 am (at the latest)
  • A willingness to serve independently some if not all of the Sundays they sign up for
    • This means they would make the coffee and organize all of the snacks provided as well as communicate to the team lead about any supply needs. They would also be responsible for after Coffee Hour clean up.
  • The team lead will be willing to organize and execute supply refurbishment.

Hospitality is on immediate hiatus.  Carolyn and I are ready when there are at least 3-4 additional people that can fill the above criteria. This email outlines our ideal plan but we are receptive to additional input.  As we gain more permanent members that understand the expectations we can include input from those individuals as well.

In addition to this I believe that when we do have our 4-5 people, we will be reorganizing as the Coffee and Conversation Team.  The team supports a broad range of events.  The revised hospitality team will need closer to 8-10 members (including Coffee and Conversation Team). People interested in the Hospitality Team would be described as follows…

  • A willingness to assist with special events as well as regular events at SGUUF that fall outside of Sunday Services.  Examples include…
    • Family Events hosted by RE
    • Community Events that may need SGUUF snack support
    • SGUUF events including Potlucks, Pic Nics, Movie Nights, Art Events,

Memorial Services, new member orientations, or any other event not listed.

  • A willingness to help with the Coffee and Conversation Team, if not already a core team member.  If not a core team member there is no expectation of signing up to independently lead a Sunday for Coffee and Conversation.

The Hospitality Team would consist of 8-10 people which includes the Coffee and Conversation Team. The Coffee and Conversation team will consist of 4-5 of the Hospitality Team members.

There is no offerings from this team effective immediately.  There will be no Hospitality Team support for the upcoming potluck for Thanksgiving.  The congregation will be responsible to set up, break down, and clean up.  Carolyn and I both plan on being in attendance for the potluck and are happy to help out.

Sincerely,

Kelly and Carolyn
