To the Congregation of San Gabriel UU Fellowship,

This past Sunday our congregation celebrated the conclusion of our Legacy Fund Capital Campaign with a party. As I reported at this celebration, our congregation has generously pledged $243,000 over the next three years. This amazing support from our membership surpasses by 35% the $180,000 goal the Board set for this capital campaign to replace our aging roofs, to pay off the remaining mortgage, and make some improvements to our facilities.
My report has more good news. Some members have already made good on their pledges. We have already received $62,000 of the pledged funds!
The money we have received will allow the Board to move forward in the next month or so with replacing the old shingle roof on the sanctuary with more durable metal roofing and putting high quality architectural shingles on both the Fellowship House and the Little House. In doing this the Board anticipates future savings on our property insurance premiums.
If we have more members honoring their pledges at the beginning of 2026 then the Board can pay off a portion of the remaining mortgage balance of $107,000 which will reduce the amount of interest we pay the bank each month on the remaining loan. Final payment of the mortgage will be made when we have enough in the bank to cover any emergency after the mortgage is paid.
Serving as the church treasurer, I am the only member of the Board who knows who made capital campaign pledges. Consequently, I will be sending pledge confirmations at the beginning of 2026 as a reminder for members to honor their pledges as they are able over the next three years.
At our celebration last Sunday our Capital Campaign Committee (Molly Hornbuckle, Woody Hibbard, Frank Sanders, Stephanie Blanck, Lou Snead, and myself), our Board President, and our Pulpiteer expressed their heart-felt gratitude to our congregation for this incredibly generous support of the Legacy Fund campaign. We thank everyone who made a financial commitment to this capital campaign that will ensure the future presence of our UU congregation in Georgetown for years to come.
With gratitude,
Rob Berthold
Treasurer
