Rooted in the belief that people of all body sizes deserve dignity, respect, and equitable treatment, fat liberation challenges the stigma, discrimination, and systemic barriers faced by fat people in healthcare, employment, public spaces, transportation, clothing access, media representation, and everyday life. In this service, we will explore the history and p

Spanish/Bilingual Book Drive for GISD - August 2nd-31st
The Social Justice team is holding a Spanish language book drive for Georgetown ISD during the month of August. While being interviewed by KVUE back in March, I asked a GISD administrator how the district has been impacted by ICE presence in Williamson County. The impact has been steady, with less parental interaction at school hosted activities due to fear of deportation. GISD has had to slow down on advertising events, like open house, field day, meet the teacher night, etc

Do Social Change: Deepa Iyer's Social Change Ecosystem and the Enneagram's Instinctive Triad by Eric Hepburn
July 6, 2026 - We begin a four-part series exploring Deepa Iyer's social change ecosystem — from her book Social Change Now, the Unitarian Universalist Association's common read — through a developmental lens drawn from the Enneagram's three centers: gut, heart, and head, plus spirit. This episode explores the instinctive (gut/body) triad: the people whose call to justice arrives as anger, and the three ecosystem roles where that energy finds its work.

Join The Resistance by Lou Snead & Chuck Collins
In our Social Justice Sunday service on June 28, Chuck Collins and Lou Snead will invite our congregation to consider the many ways we can resist feeling powerless to stand up against the forces of political authoritarianism, religious self-righteousness, and racial superiority that seem to be dominating our nation’s political landscape today. In the spirit of the resistance expressed in the hippie and black power movements of the 1960s and 1970s our congregation is encoura

US Detention of Immigrants by Eric Hepburn
I got on a bus headed south, past San Antonio to a community called Dilley, Texas. There is a modern day American internment / concentration / prison camp there, we call it a detention center. Let's talk about what I saw, what I learned, and what we might all need to learn if we want things to change.

Side With Love Statement on the killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE
Statement on the killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE: We grieve the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37 year-old mother and legal observer, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis yesterday—an act of state violence that has stolen a life and reverberates through an already-wounded community. This is not an isolated incident, but the result of policies that criminalize immigration and enforce borders through fear, surveillance, and force rather than care. Side Wit

SHOWERS OF GRATITUDE!
"Have you ever had a conversation with an unhoused person?" On the last Sunday of September, some members of the SGUUF Social Justice Team opened the doors of the Fellowship House and greeted our unhoused neighbors, who were arriving to enjoy a shower and a hot meal. Keith Rogas, new to our SJ Team, shares his experience by starting with a question, "Have you ever had a conversation with an unhoused person?" He continues: "I hadn’t done so until a couple of weeks ago, when

Will SGUUF Still Be in Georgetown Ten Years from Now?
How will we answer that question? Those of us who have found a spiritual home in this UU Fellowship certainly hope so. The pioneers who took the bold step to purchase our SGUUF facilities in 2013 planned for it to be here into perpetuity. A host of committed and generous members and friends of our Fellowship over the past dozen years have invested in the continued presence of our UU church in Georgetown as we preserved through a pandemic and difficult leadership changes.
