The Goddess: Poems by Susan J. Rogers

In the poems from her latest book, Landscapes of the Mind, Susan J. Rogers wraps the personal in the mystical to reimagine history and ultimately transform it.  Her retelling of the legends we thought we knew reveal that the Goddess of our ancestors (from the Middle East, to Japan and the British Isles) is still with us, hiding in plain sight.  Her first book of poetry, In the Beginning: an Egg, a Mask, a Woman, explores the multi-faceted Goddess of Wisdom and Compassion, Tara from India and Tibet, who vows to come right away when we call her.  It also explores the Sun Goddess Ama-terasu in the beautiful resurrection story of the Shinto religion, as well as other Goddesses.  Her thirst for knowledge about the Goddess untangles the lies we were taught so we can stand proudly in the reflection of the divine.  She uses her roots in the natural landscapes of the Great Lakes, New Mexico, and south central Texas to seek wisdom in the web of life that surrounds and sustains us.  Some of these poems have appeared in Texas Nafas show on public cable television in Austin where Rogers was interviewed about her poetry, as well as di-vêrsé-city: anthology of the Austin International Poetry Festival, The Ocotillo Review, and Blue Hole: A magazine of the Georgetown Poetry Festival.
