Will SGUUF Still Be in Georgetown Ten Years from Now?

How will we answer that question?

Those of us who have found a spiritual home in this UU Fellowship certainly hope so.  The pioneers who took the bold step to purchase our SGUUF facilities in 2013 planned for it to be here into perpetuity.  A host of committed and generous members and friends of our Fellowship over the past dozen years have invested in the continued presence of our UU church in Georgetown as we preserved through a pandemic and difficult leadership changes.  Some of us who make up our congregation today see SGUUF as one of the few faith community alternatives for us here in Georgetown.  And a continuous stream of others have found their way to our Fellowship because they too are looking for a spiritual community that affirms the beliefs expressed on the colorful banner affixed to the University Avenue side on our sanctuary.

For all of these reasons, the Board of SGUUF has now embarked on a Capital Campaign to make sure our UU presence will be in this community for years to come.   The goal for this Legacy Fund is to raise $180,000 over the next 3 years to pay off the original mortgage on the church property, to replace the deteriorating roofs on our three buildings, and to make improvements to our children’s ministry facilities.

To accomplish this goal, all our members and friends are being asked to make special generous pledges to this Legacy Fund as an investment in the future of SGUUF.   Pledge cards will be distributed at the Sunday services in early October and/or mailed to every member with an invitation to consider joining this Legacy Fund at whatever level you are capable of doing as an investment in this UU presence in Georgetown.

The investments we will make to this Legacy Fund represent more than just having church facilities for our Sunday services and weekly programs.  This identifiable location of SGUUF stands as the gathering place for a progressive faith community in Georgetown that has provided a witness to a congregation working for social justice, caring for the health of our planet, exercising the search for truth, and providing unconditional love and support for one another with all our individual differences.

We invite you to make a pledge to the best of your ability to our Legacy fund for the future of SGUUF for years to come.
